Patience (or Taking Ages)
He said - with a gleam in his logical eye -
I have one for you!
John is 16
His cousin is 21.
If you doubled John’s age,
Subtracted two-thirds of his cousin’s age
And multiplied your answer
By three,
You’d know John’s father’s age
- pause -
How old is John’s father?
Tell me where he lives
And I’ll just ask him....
No! he said logically
You’re supposed to work it out!
That could take ages....
So? he said
Then take ages!
I did
By the time I worked it out
John was 17
And my answer was wrong.
(Answer : John’s father was 54 on the 27th of February at 11.45pm)
