Liam was born in Waterford city and grew up steeped in music. He got violin lessons from the renowned Fintan O'Carroll. He graduated to the viola after a number of years and went on to play with various orchestras.

Liam has played all kinds and categories of music- Classical, Traditional Irish, Ballads, Blues, Rock, to name a few, and he particularly enjoys backing singers of all styles from far and near. He is always ready to try his hand at something new. He now plays the only 5 string viola in the country! It was made for him by Tim Phillips in Wales. Liam is delighted to be playing such a beautiful instrument.
