Donal Power Biography
Born in Abbeyside and now lives in Carrigaline, Co. Cork. A Project Manager with An Post, Cork, Donal has always been involved in music, concerts and writing. A co-founder of Abbeyside Folk Group and the Parish Newsletter. Wrote ‘50 Years of Abbeyside Scouting’ in 1980. Composed music of the ‘Abbeyside Mass’ in 1985 which was televised in 1986. The 'Abbeyside Mass' included the popular folk hymn 'We Believe' which has now become a folk standard.
Moved to Skerries, Dublin in 1986. Leader of the Skerries Folk Group 1987 to 1995. Wrote and produced the winning Dublin entry for the Community Games Variety Competition in 1992 finishing runner-up to Galway in the National Final. Moved to Cork in 1995. Twice a finalist in the National Peace Song Contest in the Everyman Theatre Cork (1998 and 1999). Donal is currently leader of Carrigaline Youth Folk Group. Pursued his career in An Post so song writing fell by the wayside for about 20 years!!
